Bobbi Brown, the well-known makeup artist and founder of Jones Road Beauty, has shared her approach to summer beauty. Her philosophy centers on feeling good from the inside out, a message she also explores in her memoir, “Still Bobbi.”
Beauty Starts from Within
Brown said that a beauty routine begins before using any products. She noted that looking her best comes from being less stressed and taking care of herself. A key part of this is staying hydrated. She has been adding chlorophyll drops to her water, which she says has little taste but encourages her to drink more. She believes hydration has a large effect on how a person feels and how their skin looks.
Balance Is Key
Brown’s approach to food and drink is practical. She said she rarely eats things that do not make her feel good, but when she does, she accepts the consequences. She enjoys pizza but only eats it when it is very good, as it may not make her feel great the next day. She also applies this to alcohol. She enjoys a cocktail but sticks to one so she can exercise in the morning. Her homemade drink, called “Bobbi Rocks,” is vodka over a large ice cube with fresh lemon juice and mint.
Keep It Simple
Summer is Brown’s favorite season to simplify her routine. She said summer encourages doing less. She moves more, is more active, and her skin gets some sun, even with sunscreen, so she needs less makeup. When she wears makeup, it is simple: tinted moisturizer with SPF, a little Miracle Balm on the cheeks and lips, pencil under the eyes, and mascara. She often finishes applying it in the car. She does not believe in a full face of makeup during the summer, preferring a lighter, more natural look.
The Rule to Break
Brown offered advice on foundation. She said people do not need foundation every day. If there is a little redness or a spot, it is enough to just touch it up. She believes people look better with less coverage.
The Must-Have Product for Summer
If Brown had to choose one product for summer, it would be sunscreen. She described the Jones Road Beauty sunscreen as lightweight and easy to blend. She said it is the perfect first step in any summer routine, followed by tinted moisturizer for a little extra coverage.
Makeup for Mature Skin
Brown’s advice for skin that has changed over time is to work with it. She said makeup should work for the person. If it settles into lines or makes skin look dry, it is not the right product. She emphasized that hydration is key, and often more moisture is needed rather than more coverage. She recommends using oils, such as the Oil Stick or Hippie Stick, to add a fresh, dewy finish.
Wellness Habits for Glowing Skin
Brown keeps her wellness habits straightforward. She said the basics are drinking enough water, getting good sleep, moving the body, and eating real, whole foods. She believes consistency is more important than complexity.
The Only Beauty Rule Worth Following
After years in the beauty industry, Brown’s philosophy remains unchanged. She believes in feeling good first, and the rest follows. This means no complicated routines, no unnecessary products, and no chasing a look that is not natural for the person. She focuses on hydration, movement, sunscreen, and the confidence that comes from self-care.
